The photographic attraction of Niagara Falls
Since the very first photograph of the falls was taken in 1840, the camera has shaped the imagination and environment of Niagara Falls. With the exhibition Picture Yourself Here / The Photographic Attraction of Niagara Falls, Alexandre Campeau-Vallée presents a unique dialogue between his photographs of the falls—created specifically for this project—and a selection of artifacts drawn from the museum’s collection.
Produced in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape, this exhibition explores how photography has shaped one of the world’s most famous landscape icons.

Alexandre Campeau-Vallée is a Montreal-based photographer and researcher. A self-taught artist, he holds a master’s degree in Environment and Sustainable Development from the Université de Montréal, where he is currently completing a research-creation PhD in Art History. Since his debut exhibition documenting the derelict hotels of French Polynesia, Alexandre has showcased his work in numerous solo and collective exhibitions across Quebec and Toronto. He has presented conferences on the intersection of photography and the environment throughout Quebec, Europe, and Africa.
